Our chief of innovation Erez Eisen knows a thing or three about sound design — he’s also half of acclaimed psytrance duo Infected Mushroom! In this video, he creates a pan flute sound using only our Filterverse plug in. Filterverse is, well, a filter, so how does it create a sound from scratch using no other synths or plug-ins?
Erez begins with the Oscillator, which is a modulation source in Filterverse, but you can also set its audio output can also be heard alongside Filterverse’s throughput signal. The Oscillator is set to produce white noise. Then, the resonance of the Flange filter type is key to producing the musically pitched tones, followed by Strings and Coils. These are two resonators that model the qualities of tensioned strings and a coil spring, respectively.
The end result is something reminiscent of the iconic “ARR1” patch from the Fairlight CMI in the treble range, but down low on the keyboard gets close to a “bramm” we could imagine in a Hans Zimmer movie score.
Follow along with Erez and create this sound yourself!
